Morphology & Key Features

  • Cap Formation – Features a conical to bell-shaped cap with a prominent nipple-like protrusion (papilla) at the apex. The cap is hygrophanous, changing color based on moisture levels, ranging from ochraceous to pale brown when moist to light yellow-brown when dry.

  • Gill Structure – Gills are narrow, closely spaced. Exhibit a narrowly adnexed to almost free attachment to the stipe. They transition from pale brown to dark gray or purple-brown as spores mature.

  • Spore Characteristics – Produces ellipsoid, smooth spores measuring 10.5–15 by 6.5–8.5 μm. In mass, the spore print appears deep reddish purple-brown.

  • Stipe (Stem) Features – The slender stipe measures 45–140 mm in length and 1–3.5 mm in thickness, often slightly thicker towards the base. It is yellowish-brown, sometimes exhibiting bluish hues upon bruising.

  • Microscopy-Ready Specimen – Ideal for spore printing, magnification, and detailed research studies.
