MELMAC 200 –  These were some alpha Sample found in our regular melmac, These two fruits were well into the 200 Gram club range.

Strain origin – Melmac was formerly known as “Homestead Penis Envy” from the Homestead Book Company, a publisher of well-known mycology books that are mainstream today.  Over the past 40 years, since Rich Gee found the original mutations, penis envy has become the ultimate strain for isolators, building on his work. Interestingly, the term “Melmac” might remind some of the fictional home planet of the character ALF (Alien Life Form) from the American sitcom “ALF,” which aired in the late 1980s. ALF hailed from the quirky planet of Melmac in the Andromeda galaxy. It’s worth noting that the Homestead Book Company, which originally found this strain, was involved in offering mushroom kits and publishing books on fungi but closed its doors after 45 years of business in 2017.

Gill formation – Gills typically are medium to large, wide range of formation. Likely to have available gills for spore production.

Microscopy features – Purplish brown spores.  Spore messure 7 x 12 micrometers. This variety Melmak does not discharge spores. Spores need to be taken manually with a sterile swab to be observed.
